In May, 2004 I adopted Kobe (pictured here) from an animal shelter.  Kobe has brought so much love and joy into my home, that I could not imagine my life without him.

AVAILABLE   Wilson   Wilson is a 1.5 year old boxer mix. Wilson came from an animal control facility where he was sure to meet with an unhappy ending. Luckily for him, a really nice person saw what a good boy and wonderful family addition he could be and took him in. Wilson is looking for his forever home. He does very well on a leash and is crate trained, he loves his crate. Wilson is fine tuning his housetraining skills and working on all of the skills a well behaved family dog should have. He loves attention and would do best in a home with a fenced yard. Wilson currently lives with a cat and a small dog in his foster home, he prefers to meet any canine companions prior to his moving in.

Available for adoption Savannah Savannah is a stunning 5 yr old fawn Great Dane in search of a new home. She currently weighs in at about 106 lbs. She is a typical Dane who really loves her human. Available for adoption NILES Niles is a stunning 8.5 yr old purebred Basenji who came in to foster care when his owner died.  He is such a nice little dog and its obvious that his former mom loved him very much! AVAILABLE Emmy - 2 year old female yellow lab mix who is very loving (despite what she has been through). She is smaller than she looks in photos. Smart, pays attention to you, comes when she is called, quiet but very playful with the other dogs. Enjoys climbing into your lap. Very good around other dogs, enjoys a round of "chase me" and wrestling. Emmy came to us half bald with a case of severe generalized demodex mange and a secondary skin infection that she is being treated for. Her road to recovery may be long, but she is taking to all the medicals like a trooper. Even in the pain she is in, she still wags her tail at you. CHYNA Chyna is a wonderful 7 yr old 20 lb purebred Red Shiba Inu. She came into foster care b/c her family couldn't take care of her any longer. Sweet Chyna has some major skin issues we are trying to work out and we think they are allergy based. Despite major issues with her skin she is THE sweetest dog. She loves everyone no matter what. Chyna is spayed, heartworm tested negative, vaccinated and microchipped. We are taking applications for pre-adoption good size.

AVAILABLE REGGIE Lab/Chow mix - What an amazing dog!! Lab/Chow mix. Reggie is THE cutest 1.5yr old , 45 lb Lab mix with an amazing underbite that just makes him that much cuter! He had been a gift for an old lady who just couldn't care for a puppy. He is very sweet and oh how he loves to play! Sweet Reggie loves other dogs of any size and just wants to be friends and play. And he plays so nicely. He wants to be friends and playmates with the cats too but they arent quite sure what to make of him.  Sweet Reggie is great with animals but somewhere during the last year and a half, we suspect a person wasnt very nice to him. Sudden movements cause him to cower as if you might hit him. We cannot imagine why ANYONE would want to strike this wonderful dog. Despite that, he still wants to be loved by people and there isnt a mean bone in his body. Sadly, many people are turned off by his underbite and think he looks mean and wont give him a chnace to show what an amazing dog he really is. An ideal home for sweet Reggie would be a primarily indoor home with a securely fenced yard and a canine companion!

 

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION LADY LADY BEA - Lady is a sweet, affectionate 9 year old Miniature Pincher.She is shy and timid when in a new situation but will quickly warm up to you. She loves car rides, and loves to look out the windows. She likes to snuggle on the couch with you, lying her head on your lap. She likes to follow you around the house and will warm your heart. Jack      AVAILABLE Jack is a stunning light brindle 5 yr old purebred Basenji. Jack spent most of his life before coming to foster care outdoors but he is learning to be an indoor dog quite nicely. Jack loves other dogs and a playful canine companion is a must in his new home, as is a securely fenced yard. Jack seems okay with cats so far too. He does well in his crate and is catching on to the whole houstreaing thing pretty well! While Jack loves dogs right away he takes his time warming up to people. He does like to curl up at your feet though! Jack rides very well in the car and is learning to walk on a leash. AVIALBLE FOR ADOPTION   MONTY   MONTY - Monty is a wonderful 4 yr old, 10 lb Min Pin mix who was rescued from a local shelter when no one came to get him. He may have had a very rough life before coming in to foster care. He is very sweet once he gets to know you but shy with strangers. If he knows you though, he is your constant companion. He is pretty laid back and easy going. He is okay with other dogs and doesn't seem to mind the cats. No small children please. AVAILABLE Bernice is a 2 year old female rottweiler. Smaller in stature than a typical rottie, she does weigh in at 65 pounds. Playful, energetic, very sweet. Gets along with other large dogs, both male and female. She doesn't care for cats though. Knows sit, down, and sleeps on her dog bed without any trouble. Bernice came to us with heartworms that have since been treated but then she was dealt another blow - sweet Bernice has hip dysplasia and needs surgery to correct the problem. This surgery is expensive and cant be done until October (b/c of the heartworm treatment) however she is available for pre-adoption and possible foster to adopt and donations towards her costly surgery would be greatly appreciated! AVAILABLE       Xena is an adorable 3 yr old 25 lb sweetheart who appears to be mix of Carolina Dog and Basenji. And her pictures don't do her justice, she is so much cuter in person! Everyone is Xena's friend - dogs, people, even cats (although the cats dont actually want to be her friend- she just loves everybody. Xena is crate trained and housetrained. She walks nicely on a leash too. Xena is spayed fully vetted and microchipped.

AVAILBLE FOR ADOPTION Shenzi   Shenzi is a fun-loving Manchester Terrier/Basenji mix with lots of spunk. Shenzi is about a year old and weighs only 21 pounds. She is almost totally house trained and doesnʼt mind sleeping in a crate. Shenzi is very smart and loves to learn new things to get treats. She would especially love to go to a home with another playful dog or older children who will play with her. She can walk well on a leash but also loves to run around in a big fenced yard. Its surprising though since he really is such a sweetheart. He loves other dogs, trys to engage the cats in play and loves to snuggle late at night! Hugo was rescued fro a local shelter after an almost 8 mo stay and yet he is still just as sweet as can be. He is easy going and even walks nicely on a leash! AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION   DELILAH     DELILAH  - Delilah is a stunning 12 month old female collie mix. Shy at first, she warms up to you when she realizes you are her friend. Sweet D spent too much time in the shelter as a puppy, and became unsocialized with people. Since getting out, she's made fanatasic progress in becoming more people oriented. She does LOVE to play with other dogs. She'll bound around the yard, hopping along trying to get the others to chase her. She even smiles at you when she's happy! We're working on basic commands, leash walking and riding in a car. Delilah is a doll, and would do fine in a home that is willing to take it slow with her. Small children may be too "erratic" for her, so her new home will need older kids, fenced yard, and even another dog for her to take clues from. Available for adoption   BUNNY             BUNNY - Bunny is a 1-2 year old female suspected Aussie/Rhodie mix. A sweet girl, she loves to play with other dogs. She has a high energy drive, she'll play and play and play! She's about 55lbs, already spayed, and ready for a loving home. Fenced yard is required. She will go into her crate if pointed in the right direction. Would be best with another doggie playmate. She knows sit, down, come, and no. Annie does need training, like so many dogs need after a lengthy shelter stay. She also needs love and patience. Once she gets to know you though she is an absolute doll. Available for adoption Meet little Barney. He is so lovable. This dog is in a foster home and not at the Cherokee shelter. Barney is crate trained and nearly housebroken. He gets along well with other dogs and cats. He is an absolute gentleman. He is learning to walk on a leash. Barney was abandoned and picked up by some nice people. She is also very patient, I was having a long conversation with a staff member, and she was very calm, even though she really would have preferred a longer walk. Available   Maggie Maggie is an absolutely adorable 4 yr old "Peacock" (Pekingnese/ Cocker mix)  who was rescued from a rural kill shelter, where her fur was heavily matted and she had what seemed like hundreds of ticks all over her body. She has since been shaved and had all the tick picked off and boy is she feeling better! Its important to note that Maggie does normally have long whitish hair! While she currently weighs 29 lbs, she should probably weigh about 20 lbs! She is very quiet and loves to sleep in a crate. She is completely potty trained. Her favorite things are the big dogs at the foster home where she lives. She also plays by herself with balls and stuffed animals. She will shake them and throw them for herself to go and fetch. She is learning to trust her new humans and is slowly warming up to petting and treats. Even though she seems afraid she has never snapped or shown any aggression to people. She really loves to play with the other dogs but tends to play too rough for the little ones! . We are not sure how she would be with children but she would probably do best in a home with no children under 10.

Available for adoption   DREAMIE   Dreamy is a Rottweiler/Labrador mix that will loves to kiss and snuggle. Dreamy has had basic obedience training and knows how to sit, walk nicely on a leash, and chase cats. Actually, she wasn't taught to chase cats. That just comes naturally for her. She is approximately 3 years old, about 55 pounds, is crate-trained and house-trained. She is spayed and up-to-date on her shots. Dreamy would make an awesome companion for someone who wants a dog that is just right - not too big, not too small. Not scary, but not wimpy-looking either. Available for adoption JOEY JOEY BREED: Basenji/Shepherd mix AGE: 1-1/2 years (I have a premature graying gene so I kind of look like an old man) WEIGHT: 36 lbs (I'm fully grown) PERKS: Rarely bark, minimal shedding/odor, require minimal grooming. Great size for apartment. HOUSETRAINING: Mostly crate and house trained. The few accidents he's had were in crate. TEMPERAMENT: Joey has several Basenji traits. Affectionate, curious, strong desire to please. Responds well to consistent training. Is intelligent and likes to tease so will require a strong leader. Forms strong bonds with people. Will do best with older considerate children and as an only pet or maybe another laid back dog. He's an indoor dog who dislikes wet weather. He's a clever climber and can easily get over chain wire fence. Requires 6' fence if let out to run. BOTTOM LINE: If you want a dog to put in your backyard and play with once in awhile, Joey's not the dog for you. But if you can give this a lot of time and love, you'll get it back tenfold. Joey's the ultimate snuggler and will be your most loyal companion.

AVAILABLE OLIVER Oliver is an very handsome 1 yr old Lab/Vizla mix weighing in at 50 lbs. He looks just like a black Vizla. He was rescued after a 7 month stint in a local shelter through no fault of his own though, just the "Curse of the Black Dog" that effects so many black dogs in shelters. He is a very sweet boy although understandably a tad shy. He absolutely LOVES other dogs and would love a home with a playful canine companion. he loves to play fetch and actually brings the ball back to you to throw it again! AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION   MAYA Maya is a stunning 4 yr old 20 lb purebred red Shiba Inu. Maya came from a home with 6 kids and that was just too much for her. She is a very easy going and mild mannered dog now that she is in a child free home. She does get along with similarly sized and smaller dogs but fines big dogs a tad intimidating. She doesnt mind cats and would probably play with cats if they would play back. Maya seeks a Shiba savvy indoor home with a securely fenced yard and no small kids. A canine companion is optional. AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION   REBA Reba is a lovley 8 yr old Shiba Inu who is coming to us this week. Mellow and Easy going, really a in the Shibas best years.  She is sweet and unassuming. She is fine with dogs.  She loves haveing her ears scratched and her belly rubbed!

Available for adoption  Freddy is an absolutley adorable 5 yr old, 25 lb apricot colored "Dandi Poo" who was rescued from a local animal control facility where he came in as a stray and no one came to claim him. The poor guy was a mix of half shaved and half mats and covered in fleas. We have cleaned him up and he is feeling so much better!. Freddy has the body and head of a Dandi Dinmont and the curly coat and coloring of a poodle and he is just as cute as can be - sweet as a button too. He is really a nice little dog who is happy to snuggle in the bed, go for walks and take rides in the car. He is very content with his rawhides and will keep himself quietly busy! Freddy is fine with other dogs and doesnt even mind cats! He is crate trained and housetrained. Oh and he LOVES to play fetch!
